SYLLABUS

The students study the human body through sketching and drawing a naked model, who poses. They focus their attention on subjects such as, proportions, structure, anatomy, expressive movement, plasticity and mass.

At the same time they investigate the new possibilities of  composition by overlapping figure and space, while searching the qualities of line and tone with different materials.

From the start of the semester, the students maintain a sketchbook in their own space and enrich it daily, as a diary of visually creative processes. There, they feed in material from their research about a subject they have chosen from a group of given subjects about the body.

For example: “The suffering body”, “Surrealism and the body”, “The body in clothes”, “Consumerism and the body”.

In the diary they also include their own original thinking, hand written texts, photographs they have taken, sketches, all documented work related to the subject. The aesthetic part of each page  is an issue, too. The diary is monitored every week by the teacher, who discusses, observes, corrects.

In this way, the students can mentally move from the concept of the nude as nudity, to the concept of the body as metaphor, a reflection to the social body with its anthropological, phycological, philosophical extensions.
